I painted this today from a scene of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind - then decided it was best flipped on its side…
This one says a lot to me about overwhelm - overwhelming myself as a means to escape from difficult feelings; overwhelm in the shape of grief; dissociation as a symptom of an overwhelmed mind.
It’s been a tough week, and I was interested to see how that would manifest in a painting.
A scene from a comforting film oozes with emotion and brims with sadness.
Experience turned on its side; the mind takes refuge in abstraction and disconnection.
I learnt a lot from 4 hours of painting this evening.
The observation is in the process, the painting is just the aftermath.
