This small painting was the embodiment of a mental darkness. Yet out of darkness comes light, and sometimes creation springs out of the most desperate of places:

“No tree, it is said, can grow to heaven unless its roots reach down to hell.” - Carl Jung

A change in attitude, I decided to actualise my emotions in a physical form. Whereas previous paintings have been created in a mindless state of being, independent from thoughts, moods, and emotions, this piece was a direct consequence of overwhelming emotional turmoil.

Art really is a wonderful form of therapy; sometimes, when the world becomes too much, connecting with a canvas, a colour, and a paintbrush is sufficient medicine to remedy a tortured soul.
